With the attendance of ambassadors, cultural attachés, academic representatives, former congress members, directors of various foundations, prominent artists, and special guests, Fundación ArtLabbé held its first discussion panel, “APOCALYPSE: A Perspective from Art and Spirituality,” on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 5:30 PM.
The event featured the founder of ArtLabbé, Dr. Néstor Soto Godoy, Honorary Doctorate in Theology and Philosophy, and the renowned artist Mario Toral, who presented a selection of seven works from his private collection “Apocalypse and Other Voices.”
The origin of this initiative dates back to 2018, when the artist exhibited this collection at Casas de Lo Matta and later at the Cultural Institute of Las Condes. This institution opened its doors for the speakers to exchange perspectives on the APOCALYPSE from their respective professional fields.
Last Tuesday, in a discussion panel format held at Fundación ArtLabbé’s Chile headquarters, the dialogue was audiovisually recorded as part of a documentary that will bring this historic event back to life.
As the guests enjoyed the melodious sound of the cello, the uniqueness of the event grew even more, as we had the honor of watching Toral draw for several minutes with charcoal on a sheet of cotton paper. “This work is donated to Fundación ArtLabbé solely to be used for charitable purposes,” he mentioned.
Toral is one of Chile’s visual artists with an extensive and distinguished international career. He has devoted his creative life to painting and printmaking and has also explored other fields such as photography, book illustration, and writing essays and texts.
Dr. Honoris Causa Néstor Soto Godoy, with over 50 years of experience as a lay theologian, has traveled to various countries giving lectures to promote the universal principles found in the Holy Scriptures, such as unity and peace among nations.
The event concluded with a wine reception, lively conversations with the speakers, and the distribution to attendees of a small-scale reproduction of the Apocalypse series, personally signed by Toral.
The selection of works chosen for this event is on display at Avenida Nueva Costanera 3605, local 102 A, Vitacura (pedestrian entrance via Antonio de Pastrana). Visits are by appointment only, available from Wednesday, October 9 to Wednesday, October 23, during the following hours: Monday to Thursday, 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM; and Friday, 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
